Am Samstag, 24. Juli, hatte das Volunteers House die Gäste aus Kassel, es waren Berly (jetzt Süd-Nord-Freiwillige aus Indonesien) und Sonya (Süd-Nord-Freiwillige aus Indonesien im Jahr 2018 und in dieser Zeit hat sie ein Praktikum in Kassel). Im Moment leben 4 Personen im Volunteers House; Esperance (South North Volunteer aus dem Kongo), Georges (South North Volunteer aus dem Kongo), Abdoulaye (Student, der derzeit im Volunteers House lebt) und ich. Sonya und Berly kamen um 22 Uhr am Dortmund Hauptbahnhof an. Wir verbrachten in dieser Nacht nicht viel Zeit, da sie sehr müde waren von der Arbeit den ganzen Tag und fuhren nach Dortmund, was 2 Stunden dauerte.

Am nächsten Morgen um 9 Uhr versammelten wir uns im Wohnzimmer zum Frühstück und planten unsere Reise. Wir haben uns entschieden, Köln und Düsseldorf zu besuchen. Ich habe geplant, zweimal nach Köln zu fahren, um den Kölner Dom zu sehen, aber es ist immer gescheitert. Der erste Plan scheiterte, weil ich am Wochenende für das Global Youth Faith Event arbeiten musste. Ich habe den Fahrplan auf den 18. Juni umgestellt, musste aber auch an diesem Tag ausfallen, weil die Zugstrecke von Dortmund nach Köln wegen Überschwemmung gestört war. Gott sei Dank gab es an diesem Tag keine Hindernisse, sodass wir Köln besuchen konnten.

Das Wetter war an diesem Tag sehr sonnig, wir kamen um 14.30 Uhr im Kölner Hauptbahnhof an. Das erste, was wir taten, war, ein Mittagessen zu finden. Nach dem Essen setzten wir unsere Reise fort. Wir begannen damit, um die Kathedrale herumzulaufen und viele Fotos zu machen. So viele Leute in dieser Gegend. Wir hatten geplant, hineinzugehen und nach oben zur Kathedrale zu gehen, aber der Plan änderte sich, weil der Himmel plötzlich so dunkel wurde, dass wir das Gefühl hatten, dass die Aussicht über die Kathedrale nicht gut wäre, wenn das Wetter nicht sonnig war.

Ich fand den Kölner Dom sehr schön. Der Baustil dieses Gebäudes ist gotisch, dominiert von grauer Farbe. Dieser Stil entwickelte sich aus der romanischen Architektur. Gotische Architektur findet sich oft in europäischen Kathedralen und Kirchen. Ein Merkmal der gotischen Architektur ist ein hohes, majestätisches Gebäude und ein Turm mit einer spitzen Spitze wie der Kölner Dom. Hohe Gebäude und himmelhohe Gebäude zeugen von hohen Ambitionen und Hoffnungen, den Himmel zu erreichen. Jedes Detail im Kölner Dom hat mich wirklich erstaunt.

Wir setzten unsere Reise um die Kathedrale fort. Sonya war schon früher in Köln, also war sie unsere Reiseleiterin in Köln. Sonya hat uns den Heinzelmännchenbrunnenn gezeigt, sie hat uns die Geschichte hinter dem Ort erzählt. Sonya sagt, wir können eine Münze in den kleinen Teich werfen, uns Wünsche erfüllen und hoffen, dass unsere Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen. Interessant für mich ist, als Sonya sagte, die Hoffnung, die sie bei ihrem ersten Besuch geäußert hatte, war, dass sie nach ihrem Freiwilligendienst nach Deutschland zurückkehren möchte. Und ihr Wunsch ging in Erfüllung. Vielleicht ist es nur ein Zufall, denn ich glaube nicht wirklich an einen Mythos. Aber ich habe es zum Spaß gemacht. Meine Hoffnung war die gleiche wie bei Sonya, ich möchte nach meinem Freiwilligendienst für einige Gelegenheiten nach Deutschland zurückkehren oder vielleicht mein Studium fortsetzen.

Wir setzten unsere Tour zur Hohenzollernbrücke fort. Wir verbrachten nicht viel Zeit auf der Brücke, da es anfing zu regnen. Wir entschieden uns, von Köln nach Düsseldorf zurückzukehren. In Düsseldorf verbrachten wir bis 20 Uhr Zeit auf der Rheinwerft und genossen den Sonnenuntergang am Rhein. Danach sind wir nach Dortmund zurückgekehrt. Köln und Düsseldorf sind schöne Städte. Mir und meinen Freunden hat es sehr gut gefallen. Ich habe vor, im Herbst wieder dorthin zurückzukehren.

Trip to Cologne and Düsseldorf

On Saturday 24th, the volunteers house had guests from Kassel, they were Berly (now South North Volunteers from Indonesia) and Sonya (South North Volunteers from Indonesia in 2018 and currently doing practicum in Kassel). At the moment there are 4 people living in the Volunteers house, Esperance (South North Volunteer from Congo), Georges (South North Volunteer from Congo), Abdoulaye (Student currently living in Volunteers House) and myself. Sonya and Berly arrived at the Dortmund Hauptbahnhof at 10pm. We didn't spend much time that night as they were very tired from working all day and traveled to Dortmund which took 2 hours.

The next morning at 9 am, we gathered together in living room to eat our breakfast and planned our trip. We decided to visit Cologne and Düsseldorf. I have planned two times to go to Cologne to see Kölner Dom but always failed. The first plan failed because I had to work on weekends for the Global Youth Faith Event. I changed the schedule to June 18th, but that day also had to be cancelled because the train route from Dortmund to Cologne was disrupted due to flooding. Thank God on that day there was no obstacles so we could visit Cologne.

The weather on that day was very sunny, we arrived in Cologne Hauptbahnhof at 2.30 pm. The first thing we did was to find lunch. After eating, we continued our journey. We started by walking around the Cathedral and taking lots of photos. So many people in that area. We had planned to go in and go upstairs to the cathedral but the plan changed because suddenly the sky turned so dark, we felt the view above the cathedral would not be good if the weather was not sunny.

I found Kölner Dom is very nice. The architectural style of this building is Gothic dominated by gray color. This style evolved from Romanesque architecture. Gothic architecture is often found in European cathedrals and churches. One of the characteristics of Gothic architecture is a tall, majestic building, and a tower with a pointed tip just like Kölner Dom has. Tall buildings and soaring into the sky depict high aspirations and hopes to reach heaven. Every details in Kölner Dom really amazed me.

We continued our journey around the Cathedral. Sonya had been to Cologne before, so she was our tour guide while in Cologne. Sonya showed us Heinzelmännchenbrunnenn, she told us the story behind the place. Sonya says we can toss a coin in the little pond that is there and make wishes and hope our wishes come true. What's interesting to me is when Sonya said the hope she expressed when she first visited the place was 'after her volunteering service she wants to return back to Germany'. And her wish came true. Maybe it's just a coincidence, because I don't really believe in a myths. But I did it for fun. My hope was the same as Sonya, I want to return back to Germany after my volunteering service for some occasions or maybe continue my study.

We continued our tour to the Hohenzollern Bridge. We didn't spend much time on the bridge as it was starting to rain. We decided to return from Cologne to Düsseldorf. In Düsseldorf we spent time at the Rheinwerft until 8 pm, enjoying the sunset beside the Rhine. After that we returned to Dortmund. Cologne and Düsseldorf are beautiful cities. My friends and I really enjoyed it. I have plans to go back there again in autumn.
